It’s okay to be overwhelmed by overwhelming things.

Beyond Wonderland 2023

It went differently than any of us expected.

It’s okay to feel sad, mad, scared, or any other emotions you may have about your weekend.

It’s okay to not know how you feel, but want support figuring it out and figuring out what to do with those feelings.

While mass shootings have become common in the United States of America, it’s not something we should grow numb to.

Unlock Healing and Empowerment with Trauma-Informed Therapy and Self-Guided Online Resource Lists
Maybe you’re looking for 1-1 support through individual therapy, or maybe you are looking to read more about what you might be experiencing and some tips to help you as you process your Beyond Wonderland 2023 experience solo or with your friend group outside of therapy.
What is Trauma?
Trauma, whether it stems from a single distressing event or a series of adverse experiences, can leave deep emotional scars that affect every aspect of our lives. Trauma-informed therapy is designed to compassionately guide you through this difficult journey, providing a safe space where you can uncover the roots of your trauma, process painful emotions, and reconnect with your innate resilience.

Mass Shooting Trauma Recovery
Recovering from the trauma of a mass shooting can be an arduous and complex journey, but with the right support and resources, survivors can find healing. It is essential to acknowledge the immense impact these tragic events have on individuals, families, and communities. Trauma-informed therapy, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), are often employed to help survivors process their experiences and manage symptoms like anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Group therapy sessions, focused on providing a safe space for survivors to share their stories and connect with others who have undergone similar traumas, can foster a sense of community and validation. Additionally, an extensive support network, including friends, family, and community organizations, is crucial in helping survivors rebuild their lives and find hope in the face of adversity. By combining therapeutic interventions, peer support, and a compassionate community, mass shooting survivors can embark on a path towards healing and resilience.

Available Resources

  • Therapists Offering 1-1 Support

A list of therapists who are currently available to offer individual therapy services to Beyond Wonderland 2023 Attendees looking for individual therapy was created by Kimberly Louvin, LCSW, LICSW. This list was generated by asking various Therapist Networking groups to provide their contact information and states they are licensed in if they are available with current/immediate openings to provide acute trauma support.

  • Mental Health Support Lines

A resource list has been created by Two Mental Health Professionals working in Washington State to help folks who are looking for mental health support hotlines, crisis lines, and for support in coping tools and strategies.

This list is intended to be a set of tools and guides to help you find the support you need and does not include specific names of specific therapists.

I went back to the Gorge…

In July 2023, I returned to the Gorge Amphitheater just a month after Beyond Wonderland 2023 for the Above and Beyond Group Therapy Weekender festival. I did yoga where I first watched music after learning about the shooting, I sat and cried looking out over the sunset remembering that several fellow EDM lovers would never get that chance again, and I grieved the loss of peace I felt that day.

I made this video as a series of content to showcase my experience and I hope it is helpful.
